Overview: Mind Springs Health has been providing outstanding behavioral health services to the residents of Northwest Colorado for 50 years, and with the development of West Spring Hospital in 2018 they have made a commitment to provide a full continuum of care to the entire Northwest region. Their mission has been to promote recovery and wellness by providing consumer-driven behavioral health care, meeting the needs of children, adolescents, adults, and seniors through its broad array of community based and inpatient programs designed to keep residents in their own communities. 

 

The Organization: Mind Springs Health’s CEO, Sharon Raggio, has retired after 15 years of committed leadership and who, along with a dedicated Board and outstanding staff have seen a tremendous growth in services to meet an increasing need. This $50M+ mission-driven organization has helped thousands of children and adults live better lives by providing quality behavioral health services within a framework of “evidence- based practices” with a focus on recovery throughout a 10 County Region.  Mind Springs Health has also been an important partner with other health care systems and the community at large. This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced leader to play a pivotal role in helping a vital organization build upon a foundation of demonstrated success.

 

Mind Spring Health’s next CEO must balance the competing demands of both internal and external challenges. Mind Springs is facing several challenges, each of which is critical to its future and all of which require exceptional leadership and teamwork:

 

  • Executive leadership transition

  • Building collaborative relationships with counties, communities, clients and their families, allied health and human service organizations providers, and payers to meet the evolving needs across their 10-county service area

  • Transformation of services and supports to succeed in a Value-Based Reimbursement environment

  • Recovery and stabilization in the post-Covid environment

  • Meeting increasing service demand amid new standards of care and the uncertainties about future funding

  • Realignment, recruitment, training, development, and retention of Staff in a highly competitive environment

 

The Ideal Candidate: CEO candidates should:

 

  • have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in large complex organizations, establishing credibility and confidence with staff, government officials, community leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders with a “partnering” philosophy

  • have a track record of being both a visionary and strategic leader

  • possess a strong business capability with solid management skills; committed to mission while insuring fiscal strength

  • evidence of exemplary leadership within similar organizations that are fully immersed in delivering excellent care with a philosophy that encourages the development of strong teams with a common purpose

  • possess a management style that is inclusive, participatory, accessible, fair, engaging and decisive; being comfortable with debate and good at conflict management

  • have strong technological skills and a commitment to a data driven environment

  • have excellent communications skills, with a reputation of being able to inspire and motivate others in the search of providing on-going opportunities for organizational growth within a strong fiscal foundation

  • be seen by others as having a reputation for honesty, transparency, integrity, credibility and a commitment to “principle centered leadership”

  • have a track record of valuing innovation and creativity; being entrepreneurial and capability of thinking “outside the box”

  • possess a full appreciation of the needs of culturally diverse communities and be prepared to make Northwest Colorado his/her home

  • have successful experience in collaborating with community boards

  • have public sector health care experience, experience with Medicaid & complex funding streams, experience within a regulatory as well as services within a managed care environment, have merger/acquisition experience and possess strong contract negotiating skills

  • be a high energy person with an ability to be adaptable and flexible

  • have a full understanding of health care reform, ACOs, and the provision of integrated care

  • experience in municipal, State, & Federal legislation, regulations & policies related to mental health or human services

  • This CEO will continue to lead Mind Spring forward in realizing its mission of rebuilding lives and inspiring hope by providing exceptional mental health and addiction recovery care…thus strengthening the health and vitality of its communities.

  • be Master’s prepared in a business or healthcare discipline and have a minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in a health care setting; behavioral health experience preferred
