ABOUT THE REGION

In the Northwest Indiana region (NWI), the urban, suburban, and rural areas provide a community for everyone and a lifestyle that emphasizes family, outstanding schools, and community safety, and offers a diverse array of leisure activities. From the exhilaration of outdoor and nature activities to the excitement of big city culture and entertainment in Chicago; from civic, school, religious, and community events to seasonal festivals; from national historical sites to local and regional museums; from local performing arts to regional theater - they've got it all.

The region’s economy is strong and continues to grow. Not only is the region great for work, it’s affordable, too. According to U.S. News, Indiana is ranked at No. 3 in housing affordability and No. 2 in overall affordability. The cost of living in Indiana is also one of the lowest in the country, ranked fifth lowest in the U.S. at 9% below the national average.

Education is one of Indiana’s core strengths. From elementary to university, Indiana offers great education to further grow the mind. In the state of Indiana, the best schools are given the Four-Star designation. In the 2017-2018 school year, over 230 schools throughout the state received the designation, and 30 of those schools are within the NWI region.

NWI makes it easy to keep a healthy lifestyle a priority. With 25 miles of beaches, a national park and state park, there are all kinds of year-round activities to get out and be active. Explore the Indiana Dunes National Park, made up of over 15,000 acres of dunes, oak savannas, swamps, bogs, marshes, prairies, rivers, and forests. Access to healthcare is essential for high-quality living, and NWI is ready to provide. Hust within 2021, medical providers planned, built, or opened over $400 million in new hospitals, clinics, and care centers to meet the needs of every resident.

Low property taxes, affordable housing, great schools, accessible healthcare, diverse recreational and cultural activities are just some of the many benefits of living in Indiana. Add to that, welcoming neighbors and you begin to get a picture of the place to be!
