Located in Larimer County Colorado, SummitStone Health Partners is the largest provider of behavioral healthcare services for Medicaid clients in the County. Since its start in 1957 as Larimer County’s Mental Health Department to where it is today after mergers and rebranding, SummitStone has maintained its commitment to fostering community well-being by providing comprehensive care and support to individuals and families across the County. It is against this backdrop that a search is being conducted to identify and recruit candidates to fill the role of Chief Financial Officer.
ABOUT THE ROLE
​
As Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will be the highest financial officer of SummitStone and will be responsible for the organization’s financial performance. As a key strategic partner, the CFO will oversee financial operations and provide guidance and support for Summit Stone’s continued development as the premier behavioral health organization serving Larimer County.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will play a key role in advising the organization and its leadership – both staff and Board - about the strategic development of people and systems that will preserve the organization’s financial stability and position it to thrive in the evolving healthcare marketplace. The CFO will be a working executive while providing operational oversight for the full range of financial and business management activities and for key administrative and support functions. As an ambassador for the Agency, the CFO will work with internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis.
Based on current circumstances, the new CFO must balance both strategic and operational assessments, advice, plans and actions to succeed in these initiatives:

Orientation and joining-up process to become a C-suite organizational leader and strategic partner

Transition from long-term capitation revenue stream to fee-for-service payments and Value Based Revenues

Full implementation of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic status (CCBHC)

Design, redesign and implementation of systems and infrastructure to support recent rapid growth, current operations and future expansion of services

Talent assessment, development and succession planning

Cultural and Process alignments with Strategic Goals

SummitStone Health Partners is $50M, private, non-profit corporation established as a community mental health center in Larimer County. With Administrative Offices in Fort Collins. SummitStone has over 750 staff providing comprehensive clinical services through 12 locations across Fort Collins, Loveland and Estes Park.
In response to the burgeoning demand for mental health and addiction crisis response, SummitStone recently opened Longview Acute Care offering a continuum of crisis care from 24x7 urgent care and assessment to acute care stabilization, a crisis stabilization unit, onsite pharmacy and care coordination. Continuing development of the campus will include short-term intensive residential treatment (IRT) - short-term residential program for clients focused on recovery; an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP); a Behavioral Health Institute / Center of Excellence for Training and Professional Development; and expansion of existing services. This development is an example of the deep community support and strong public and private partnerships that impact SummitStone’s success.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

To be successful leading SummitStone’s finance team, the “Ideal" candidate should:

Have a successful track record leading strategic initiatives and building innovative support systems while maintaining a hands-on, roll-up-your sleeves approach to operations.

Have capability as a “big picture” executive while ensuring that all financial systems and procedures run smoothly while providing the CEO, Executive Team and Board with timely and accurate important financial information; strength in financial “modeling” essential; be data driven

Have a foundation in Medicaid reimbursement and cost-finding methodologies should be coupled with a working knowledge of a range of current healthcare contracting approaches.

Have an “executive presence” with an ability to be a credible voice for SummitStone to staff, elected officials, payers, and colleagues across the state; possess integrity, humility, confidence, transparency, and a strong work ethic

Be flexible and adaptable in a rapidly changing health care environment; have a track record of being innovative and entrepreneurial

Comfortable partnering with the CEO, Executive Team, and Board in leading organizational change

Experience driving organizational performance through the evolution of healthcare and decision-support technology including the integration of financial, human resource, and clinical reporting systems

Have an ability to balance the goals of a mission-driven organization with one that flourishes with a strong business orientation

Able to be a leader and motivator, a commitment to “team”, and have strong “Emotional Intelligence” attributes

Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills are paramount.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field required, Master’s degree strongly preferred

More than seven years of experience in in budget creation, budget projections, budget research, monitoring, and management analysis of administrative practices and operating policies and procedures in a proprietary healthcare system required

CPA or CMA strongly preferred
