Known for innovation and its commitment to clinical excellence, West Central Behavioral Health (West Central or WCBH) has been the community anchor for behavioral health services for over 40 years.  From its roots as a community clinic, West Central has developed a broad array of services for children, adults, veterans, and families, offering high quality, accessible care.  West Central collaborates with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and the Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center to drive innovations in mental health and substance use treatments and to develop the next generation of providers. Through these and other unique community partnerships, West Central Behavioral Health has emerged as an integral part of the healthcare and human service fabric of the community.


West Central Behavioral Health is a private, not-for-profit community mental health center based in Lebanon, New Hampshire and serving Sullivan and southern Grafton counties, with facilities throughout the area ( West Central is governed by a voluntary citizen Board of Directors with diverse representation that includes individuals with backgrounds in education, social services, healthcare, business and a broad spectrum of community engagement and activism. Funded by Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, state and federal grants and local government resources, West Central has annual gross revenues of $11.4M. The organization serves 2,500 clients and employs about 150 full and part-time clinical and administrative staff dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health services.


West Central Behavioral Health’s Board of Directors has initiated a national search to identify and recruit top-notch candidates to compete to lead West Central into its next chapter of innovation and growth.





As President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will be the highest professional officer of West Central Behavioral Health and will be responsible for the organization’s performance - programmatic, administrative, and financial.  Key leadership roles will include working with the Board to develop and implement West Central’s strategic vision; stimulating the development of state-of-the-art programming strategies that position West Central as a regional and statewide leader for achieving community impact; guiding and coaching the executive leadership team; and, with the Board and leadership team, setting and achieving programmatic and financial goals that assure a stable future.   As the highly visible primary spokesperson for West Central, you will communicate WCBH’s plans and policies to broad public, private and legislative audiences and develop and nurture productive relationships and resources deemed essential for the attainment of West Central’s goals and objectives.


WCBH is facing a number of challenges, each of which is critical to West Central’s future and all of which require exceptional leadership and teamwork:


  • Executive leadership transition

  • Transformation of services and supports consistent with its development to become a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) and the re-design of New Hampshire’s Strategic and Medicaid Plans

  • Recruitment, training, and retention of Staff

  • Financial stabilization and growth to assure the future viability of the organization.


This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of West Central Behavioral Health and to impact behavioral health and support services for children, adults, veterans, and families in their communities and across the region and state.


The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader with a master’s degree or the equivalent in a behavioral health or other relevant discipline, a minimum of five years of senior leadership and management experience, relevant clinical experience, and a working knowledge of the healthcare insurance field.

  • Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated skill in overseeing the development and implementation of a successful staff recruitment and retention plan.

  • Adept at building organizational capacity by developing employee strengths and skill sets.

  • A kind, open, and inclusive approach to others, with a strong appreciation for the value of listening.

  • Experience with and enthusiasm for partnering with other community organizations in the healthcare and related fields.

  • Substantial experience in creating and implementing a sustainable financial management plan.

  • Experience sustaining an effective working relationship with the Board of Directors.

  • A history of providing leadership in the creation and operation of an effective fund-raising program.

  • Demonstrated experience at leveraging local, state, and federal resources to foster organizational efficacy, efficiency, and resilience.
