Mills Peninsula Medical Center (MPMC) has a rich history - from its founding in response to the Great Earthquake of 1906 to the opening of a new 241-bed in 2011 to meet the needs of its growing community. In 2019, MPMC’s Community Health Needs Assessment identified Mental Health and Well Being as the community’s #1 concern.
The Role: As Director of Psychiatric Services you will provide leadership and administrative direction for the continuous improvement and development of MPMC’s evolving system of Mental Health services. You will be responsible for a growing system within the acute care hospital that includes 36 adult & adolescent beds, 21 psych beds that are being re-licensed as CDH beds, a robust PHP/IOP with ADC of 70 and a rapidly growing telehealth service. You will guide the development and implementation of best practices in the acute care setting including the emergency department and in ambulatory hospital and community-based settings.
Reporting to Sutter’s Senior Director of Mental Health Operations, you will work in partnership with MPMC leadership and Sutter Mental Health Services to achieve expected results. Their community has a keen interest and support for behavioral health and is known for its philanthropy. Sutter hopes to leverage the talents of a strong, hands-on leader to direct current operations and guide their strategic expansion in both hospital and community-based services. Innovation will be paramount.

Demonstrated experience in providing operational and strategic leadership in a matrixed organization providing mental health services in acute care, ambulatory, and community health settings

Proven experience in developing and implementing significant programs to achieve best-in-class services of the highest quality and to improve the strategic position of an organization

An outcomes orientation with demonstrated ability to balance clinical and financial performance to deliver desired results

Relevant industry experience required with a background in the integration of behavioral health within a community hospital system

Strong hands on inpatient operations experience in a complex health care institution combined with change management and process improvement skills

An entrepreneurial spirit that embraces and drives innovation

A commitment to diversity and cultural competence that is reflected in patient services and employee engagement

Graduate-level education in a behavioral health, nursing, public health or business or healthcare administration or a related field is required. Clinical training and licensure are a plus.
